The S2 evolved over a period of about six months from the end
of 1988 into 1989. You may see some cars referred to as S1.5's even, since many of the
features introduced for the S2 appeared on S1's until the specification was
standardised.
Amongst the changes were:
- Introduction of the 2.9 version of the Ford V6.
- Electric windows.
- Chrome bumper trim.
- Internal wheel arches (helps to prevent corrosion of the chassis).
- Optional walnut trim.
- Revisions to the rear chassis to prevent 'squat' under acceleration.
- Wheels were changed from the old 'slot' type to the more attractive OZ seven spoke
alloys.
The 2.9 litre version of the Cologne engine differed in more than just capacity. The
cylinder head design is different and new electronic fuel injection system was used. The
power ouput was up to 168 bhp, and torque up to 172 lbs/ft.
