With the advent of the 'Red Rose' division at TVR, owners now have more options for both new cars and those already on the road.

James Hall immediately took advantage of the wheels now available from TVR to update his Cerbera with slinky 225/35/ZR18's at the front and 255/35/ZR18's at the rear of his 4.5.

The fronts are 10mm narrower than the standard 17" tyres (235/40/ZR17 and 255/40/ZR17) because nobody makes a 235/35 profile tyre. Grip at the front hasn't been compromised however.

James was of the following opinions:

  • Grip: Improved. Both wet and dry handling is more sure footed. Very impressed.
  • Standing water: I haven't hit any really bad puddles, but heavy rain doesn't seem to be any more of a problem than with the 40/17s.
  • Ride quality: No noticeable difference. I was expecting it to be a bit harsher, but having driven along some poor quality roads at speed, it's still as supple a ride as before.
  • Looks: Stunning. Especially having the Anthracite finish which (I think) goes well with the Starmist Blue.
  • Value: If you need new tyres, the wheels work out at about £200 or so each, and the tyres are just a few quid more than the 17" versions. Expect to pay just under £2,000 for 4 wheels and tyres (inc VAT). If you don't need new tyres, it's still worth doing if you can afford it. Keep the old wheels and tyres for track days (or sell them to somebody with a 4.2 or Speed 6).

The other option available for the Cerbera is a modified inlet system. This was fitted to the Motor Show car.
